SINISTER SIX Film Still A Possibility
In lieu of the monetary success that Sony has seen with its standalone VENOM film and the critical buzz it's seen with it's SPIDERMAN animated film (subtitled INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE), there is a great deal of eagerness to use its positive momentum to move forward with not just sequels, but also with other properties in the Spider-Man universe as well. Though MORBIUS: THE LIVING VAMPIRE is likely the only major film on the docket for sure, Sony is still apparently keen, based on a new morsel of info, to get a SINISTER SIX film developed.
First though, some quick background about the Sinister Six itself. For the uninitiated, the Sinister Six are a group of supervillains made up of some of Spider-Man's most dangerous rogues. Though the group, as with any team (hero, villain, or otherwise), has gone through a number of roster changes, their threat level to our favorite web slinger or any adversary is undeniable. With that said, back before Spider-Man's inclusion in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), there were big plans to spinoff a SINISTER SIX film from THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN franchise. However, due to the disappointing critical and financial performance of the franchise's second installment, development on the spinoff film stalled. That is, until now....
In an interview with Vanity Fair, INTO THE UNIVERSE producer, Amy Pascal, provided an update regarding possible development on the film by saying the following:
“I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it. I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to...”
If you're unsure of who Mr. Goddard is, he is the gentlemen who directed CABIN IN THE WOODS and BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE (more recently). So what are your thoughts? Would you like to see a SINISTER SIX movie get made? Let me know in the comments...
