Derrickson To 'Depart' IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

Just as news hit recently that the Disney+ series, WandaVision, would move up its release date to this year, comes word today that director Scott Derrickson will leave from the director's chair for the highly anticipated MCU sequel, DOCTOR STRANGE: IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. So, besides the obvious bummer of losing the director of the initial film, you might be asking why I brought up the prospect of the former? Well, according to Kevin Feige himself at last year's Comic Con, the series would tie in directly into the film set to release soon after. Therefore it begs the question if the film could affect the series in any unexpected ways due to the change.

According to a statement made by the filmmaker on Twitter, "creative differences" was cited as the reason for departure, stating: "Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences," the filmmaker wrote on Twitter. "I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP."

DOCTOR STRANGE: IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS is set to debut in theaters on May 7, 2021
